Johnny Flynn Writes a Poem

Tracey Emins show lead to the purchase of this divine book. With rounded corners and thick blank pages - Stationary love right there. On Sunday we went in persuit of the talented beautiful man himself. The dreamer and poet and father and godman was standing modestly to the right of the stage before his performance so I scuttled up to speak to him and he wrote this Dorothy Parker poem in my book for me. Timidly he scrawled, stopping to tuck his dishelvelled hair behind his ear. The Slow Clubs Rebecca then did the same so I thought of it as maybe a mini project of sorts. I ask myself what if the book had said, well, something else.

DR MIX at The Working Mans Club- Bethnal Green

We went to ex Stone Roses hero John Squire's new solo show and reflected longingly over his beautiful geometric paintings representing Lindsey Lohan, Woody Allen and of course Gaga. With a bagel soon in hand and a skip in our steps we rolled out to a charity night at the Working Mans Club ft music by The Waylayers (White Lies meets Foals -lineup right) and not forgetting Dr Mix. His concept being that you place your greatest fear in his hands and he returns to you with a mix-tape to cure your anxiety, (playlist left). Without the want to seem so sombre on the topic of the old L word it was relevant as we'd just discussed how Marilyn Monroe never found it and.....never.....had an orgasm. So there I was a vision a little less graceful than Mazza her bloody-self asking a complete stranger to heal my darkest fear. So yes, self reflection and fear seeking may all seem a bundle of annoyance to many but in this instance it was kinda ok I think. Kinda ok to receive a shiny new disc of understanding. No more biography shIt for a while mind.

Bon Bon Bakery Logo - From a Piping Bag to Photoshop

With a piping bag and a whole lot of butter icing I piped one letter after the other, a 'b' and 'o' and an 'n' and then repeated each letter over and over until I felt that my hand eye coordination did the letters justice and until I'd covered our kitchen table sufficiently with sugary buttered letters. I then photographed the most legible of the lot and drew over the photographs with makeshift tracing paper (a paper table cloth pieced together with ducktape) before scanning it in....oh and then we ate all the letters with brown bread.....odd but quite delightful.

The Printing Press in Our Garage....

A new project and a new incentive. Leo has set up his printing press in the garage along with rows and draws and shelves and mountains of typefaces and letterblocks. Yesterday we learnt how to set up the press and print and by golly was it nice to create an image using wooden letters, to feel the bite on the press as you pull it down to print and then to lift up the newsprint away from the blocks and feel the tacky wetness of the ink.

Computers. An afterthought in comparison.

My New Home

Upon arriving back to London I set out various goals and wrote various wish-lists or, I guess, to-do lists. I decided that a festival filled summer followed by a job would nicely cushion my idea of moving into a creative flat-share.

A few weeks after summer closed its gates and onesies and flower garlands were lying desolate and strewn through the darks of various cupboards, winter once again, two years later, has reared its little head. Umbrellas are carried and shoes get soggy but the warmth of coffee and the warmth of London heating keeps me warm.

My 'Winter Task' is now, to fill the seven bed mansion we have signed for and crikee, what a task this is proving to be.

We've met photographers, fim makers, art directors, motorbike designers, shoe designers, students and moustached men. With the move in on the horizon, nails are being bitten and character judgement has never, I repeat, never been so very very difficult.

The Housegasm, all 4000 sq/ft of it, is happening. Atlast.

My friend Nicolo Bianchino works for Mathematics in Sydney Australia and has worked on music videos for bands such as Empire of the Sun and Hilltop Hoods.

His latest project is to shoot a low budget music video for a new band called Little Red.

Unable to attend the making of this video I offered to lend a hand in any way I could so when I return home I will be putting my hand to the making of some owl masks, upon his request. Unlike my attempt at making alien costumes I'm hoping the experience won't involve drying cement on my face and that feathers and all things twit twoo-ish will once again bring my adoration for owls to the surface.

The fact that I used to collect ornaments of barn owls as a child has only now, upon this Saturday, resurfaced in my memory.

Ocki loves the owls. Fact.

Whilst in Sydney Australia I was working as an Art Director for the print adverts for the launch of the new MTV channel "MTV Classic". The whole process was something that was fairly new to me but what a frickin ball it was. Design heaven opened its arms to me and we had such a sweet time with concepts, poses and the general look of the ads. We wanted to recreate the typical 80's ads by making them look gimmicky and fairly cringe. I was given total artistic license and loved every second. Boom!

I am not a zine collector in fact I'd even go as far as to say I'm not a magazine collector but oh how a beautiful one pleases me. It'll slip into my hands, largen a smile and will of course (with pride) become part of something larger, something bigger....my heap of stuff and things. Which, to most, may seem a clumsy heap, a hugel cumpsy heap, a huge clumsy heap of surperflous pandamonium. But to me that heap, those stuffs are the things that have made it, made it to the top. My goal from here, is to create something for someone elses heap. I wanna be King (Queen) of the heap.

Together with Jess Gough we hope to conquer margins, battle the slugline and pillage layout and photo content.

Together for PLATFORM, we will march triumphantly. Ps Jess and I are both still walking in books broken and ashamedly stuck with super superglue. ( She ponders, after slowly but poignently underlining her new handrawn title in her new sketchbook: "Research" )

John, you are a wonder but I'm not down with this one. Looking back on summers past I recognize a trend in the period between June and September. It goes something like: "woops forgot to book that" followed by "yeah maybe" and then after a lovely family stint to Greece where you inevitably don't achieve the tan you were aiming for you look over your shoulder, sigh and think "I wish I'd made more plans".

I, like most, value spontaneity highly and would reward anyone who would describe their life as being wholly spontaneous but I'd also think they were a stinky liar and properly harbor various atoms of jealousy. I find that a variety and experience comes from planning ahead.

Lesson 78. Definately make plans, stick to them, experience them and document them. Sweet.

Festivals mean detaching our minds from reality, "losing yourself in the music" and essentially pushing your own boundaries whether with or without a little chemical push, right?

Festivals and Britain skip proudly hand in hand. Through fields of green these gatherings give us and our landscape purpose and a right to party. They are the forefront of eccentricity and creativity and therefore we keepa cummin back, but is 'festival-fever' really creating what it sets out to or is it in fact detaching people from reality. Is 'the surreal' another drug which people get overly consumed by?

As long as you have the unity, da music and a onesie then basically a festival is born. An open mind and honest heart and kapow heaven is yours to be taken. ( I also think comedowns should be abolished and fun-ups should be instated cos I swear theyre a made up thing for reality-haters).

So here I am at Singapore airport with a vodka and tonic to my right and far too much hand luggage to possibly equate to the 7kg allowance each person is allocated. In a vacuum of sadness and excitement for the future I find myself relating all to much and more than ever to articles and music and films I have fueled my brain with for the last eight hours. Hot Chip - No Fit State, a Frankie article about capturing happiness and then a rather extraordinary documentary on family with a sweet soundtrack by Ziggy Marley, his mum and his sister.

All I can do when leaving is look back and smile upon the amazing times I've had and hope that like every year I can keep learning and keep experiencing change in myself and in the things that I do and achieve. I feel pride, which is a feeling in between excitement and confidence....pride with lashings of satisfaction and a cemented belief that I will continue to have a jolly old time. This is a notion, mind, that has not always swarmed my heart. That all too familiar feeling of dread and fear is now only a fragrance to the former feeling.

I think I might have left my heart in Sydney but hope that I will build a new one for London and home. Home has always been a huge paradox to me as it's essentially the place I long for but also a place that defines me without me really being there at all. To return to it will in itself bring a joy of its own as I now have stories and tales and songs and pictures to illustrate the almost perfect year that I have had.

Kathy McGee | Goats and Coats

In early 2009 I completed an internship at Christopher Raeburns studios in Hackney ... "studios" being an old peanut factory. Rad. Raeburns work is constructed predominantly from old army parachutes layered and tailored into beautiful translucent style coats and macs. My pattern cutting buddy was my dear friend Kathy. We became friends and spent hours leaning over scissors and chalk discussing our dreams of one day having a goat farm where we would live off the land. We also planned a little collaboration for a print ....the idea was based around designing little motifs for things that we find wholly satisfying such as popping bubble wrap and using scissors that slide accross wrapping paper in a fell swoop. The now infamous Slippery Cut. Kath was in her second year at LCF and up until now I'd never seen any of her work. Today is the day and bloody hell Kath.....you surpassed yourself. Elaborate tailoring with soft feminine shapes bubbled and layered like soft playdough sculptures. Whimsical wonders. High five Kath!

Friday. Hello.

Friday was gradient day. And with this came a tribute to that huge frickin volcanoe as well as my ongoing and markedly growing obsession with stuffed animals. And that does not refer to animals after greedily eating...the real deal.....Its got to the stage where Im watching instructional videos on youtube. "How to stuff and mount a duck" -taking away the sexual connatations, a most inviting "How" for me at the moment.

MTV is a dream. It's all ideas, laughter and sweet computer skills....I have remained a timid version of myself but also remain inspired to the max. Its ideas central up in the office, young minds and crazy ideas bounce off the walls on an hourly basis and I'm literally the sterotypical "This is a bloody dream" kid ........So....I'm back there next week and long may it last. Big up to Sven and Marina....oh and Jess for her sweet tablet skills.

Thought of the day: Roller Derby beckons, last night rain plus roller skates and a shopping trolley = roller derby practice and water fountain dancing.

Pandora

Another little project for China Gorilla who are launching a new night called Pandora. I started with boxes of hope, boxes and boxes all in crazy perspective but then I sort of changed tack and decided to pair a traditional but sort of odd drawing of pandora with an acrylic box behind some groovy type that I drew with pen and then pentooled.

So here we have the hairy boxed naked Pandora twins........I think its kinda groovy but maybe its a tad rustic for a bassy club night.....hmmm....I ponder.....ooh and maybe the little typography horns are too supositary like...ouch?

Monday : A gig at MTV and the drawing of drug drealers

So after returning from Melbourne last night I pootled off to my interview this morning at MTV to try and fuse my on going obsessive nature surrounding sound and images and it went swimmingly, like tadpoles it was a joy. Awesome open plan work spaces with kooky hanging objects and a mahoosive spongebob square pants...Next week I start! super! There was a mention of group brainstorming which had me grasping at the bit.....

On return A story landed on my doorstep from SomethinkBlue and my task was to depict a blue and a yellow drugdealer......so here's mr blue........which coincides with any "Monday Blues" people may be having.... oh and with the super blue dress I'm wearing courtesy of Caterpillar Quinn.

So it started at one and it ended at six five hours and five different layers of colour later and Im now a fireball orange.......wow....I feel like some superhero, maybe my name will be "Rangattack". Superpower: pending...

The experience was almost joyous, me and Rob of Surry Cutters drank half a bottle of wine and had quite the fun time as we turned me from black to white to gold to orange. Off to Melbourne tomorrow which'll be a hoot, gonna paint the town red with the brush strokes of my head......

Dream Analysis Anyone?

Last night I was in a gallery space which ran through potting sheds and igloos and then into tool shops. Me and a spectacled fellow raced on bikes through this winding space before we came to a camera shop. It was in a wooden ikea style put me up shed and we spent hours gazing at the goblin looking cameras, all stacked on shelves of ply wood. The girls ones in cmyk and the boys in rgb..... and at only 5 dollars a pop we filled our pockets and bags with the ever shriking cameras but found that we were too weighty and we did not win the tour de France......thats what the race was....apparantly. But we were together and that was all that mattered.

I went to Semi Permanent this weeekend and heard a young New Yorker talk about her passion for typography and Illustraion. Jessica Hische uses shadows to create depth and warmth in her friendly looking illustrations. This is the first time I've ever emulated somone else in creating an image...on purpose I mean.....and ooh I think its just delightful. Cut outs are my cryptonite so creating them without slicing my fingertips off with razord blades is a high five absolutely. Drop shadows are normally a no no in most aspects of what I try to do but today..I feel reborn....

So Im off to Glastonbury when I get home with a troop of funsters to go and jolly up a region of the magic...and we will be called The Villagers.....this is my first go at creating a logo that says youth joy and play.....It defo needs refining....ie all the lines are so jaggedy jack.

Never have I felt more aware of the power of my youth. Today, and for a while, the thrill of the future and its possibilities consumes me. I'm young and brave and I can do anything.....I think....Thats not to say I'll achieve anything measureable...such as a super salary, or a man who loves me or even a gorgeously deep tan. But suddenly the things that I've always wanted, those tangeable things, seem like accessories to the greater picture. The picture of life, experience, adventure and independence.

I may be spntaneous and make rash decisions fuelled by misjudgement and riddled with chaos but For the moment I think thats ok. I'd rather be bold, be wild and make the mistakes I know that I'll learn from. I believe in escaping the norm in order to learn how ones norm in the future will be. Today I feel like a crusader, an explorer and a soldier.

So I dont really suffer from jealousy, but when it comes to drawing, typography or general creation of images I am a green eyed monster sponge.

Last night I was shown a book by the young legend: Chuck Anderson. born in 1985.....yes he's twenty frickin four! His psychadelic trippy images use patterns, silhouettes and heavily hand drawn illustrations are saturated in colour and vibrance. He combines his abilty to draw on paper beautifully with his abilities on the computer. Ask anyone in my family I am obsessed with the colour naturelle of the orangutang. Oh yes. And how much do I dig ginger in the nodule herby form? (Pickled ginger to be precise) A heck of a lot!

So this Saturday If I finally bite the bullet I'm going orange. Orange like Florence, orange like the rip off phone company. The history of my hair colour is brief, I was born brown. Had a terrible Sun-In-run-in at ten and went orange like straw, orange like sahara and then later on that year I decided pillar box red was the thing. So with a blue bottle of home product hair dye....I remember the smell of it exactly....I went red...well marroon.

Since then Ive gone from brown through to dark brown/black, yep it darkens every year and " No people! I'm not a goth, I did not dye it darker ". So....

One song makes it come rushing back. One song can make your body flood with clarity. You'd forgotten about the castle in the woods but now its clear as day. The water, the softness of the ground and the way we walked in silence for hours upon the path. I never wanted to say anything, I always say I was silent but silence seems involuntary. I was quiet because nothing needed to be said. This morning I was worrying about the red stains on my new dress from the water bottle I spilt in my handbag but now I just remember.

I dont remember the happiness you talk of now, you never said anything. You thought I was odd but it didnt matter we sat for hours anyway, thats what I remember. We were stoned for those memories. Thats definately true. Stoned and silent which makes me wonder whether it was real. It seemed perfect. Perfect on that hill, perfect by the docks, perfect in the awnings of that tent and perfect in diagonal under the beams. I dont think I've ever had a friend like you.

Me and my flatmate have been sporadically discussing the meaning of life and this morning, whilst struggling to paint my nails at all well, it came to me. Its Love, right? I mean come on, seriously, you dont need to be a balding grey haired academic with a colourful waistcoat to work it out......Its the reason and being of everything....the reason why we sing, why we wear mascara, why we ice a cake and why we feel guilt.

The only reason we do things or atleast the only reason I do things is for this totally intangeable ominous thing. Whatever I do, wherever I go I always feel like I'm on my way to it. Maybe, in fact, the life that I live in loves shadow is making me the doormat upon which he dusts off his feet.

I recently lost a friend. I wanted her to fight for our little love....our friend love....but she didnt.

When I was at school I remember being informed that more Americans die from vendingmachines falling on them than those killed by sharks. Upon researching this seemingly ridonculous statement it appears that basically in a twelve month period in america (obviously) two vending machines tipped over and killed two people whilst in the same time period noone was killed by sharks. So for anyone who does have a vending machine fear.....fear not!

Anyway because of this bollocky-bill story I now have a mild aversion to drinks machines. Everytime I go type in D42 or F39 I watch as the claw hesitates and I panic in a moment. "Oh fuck its doing to D45..... if I get blooming cherry cola it'll break my frickin heart". Its so funny that im now referencing this emotion cos it really is a strong one.......my heart almost misses a beat at the thought of not seeing my sprite can or my coke can clunk to the bottom of the retrieval drawer.

Anyway this is dedicated to The Drinks Machine. For killing people, causing heart palpitations and definitevely quenching thirst with aspertame. ( and I love the way the choocie ones swirl to deliver a Twirl....or a Kitkat etc......the image works better with a Twirl)

Today I'm Dressing Up

Its fallen upon me to once again make myself look as foolish as possible in light of attending a dress up festival. I love to dress up. I love everything about it. The newness and foreign feel of the viscose materials on your skin, the colours you get in photos and the new persona you seem to carry along with your cape wig or mask. Dressing up, I feel, is seen as play, as a jovial game that accompanies, more often than not, the art of self intoxication and general tom-foolery, but for me it feels like luxury, like a treat..... it's like shopping on Diagon Alley...its not quite real.

Kate Bush and Natash Khan both look to costumes and fancy dress as a way of reliving their childhood and keeping in touch with their nostalgia. They use dress up to illustrate different people within their own personalities. Their sudonyms Babooshka (Kate) and Pearl (Natasha) represent themselves in a new light and I guess for me its the same.

So, at lunch, I'm off to "Snog the Frog" to find me a costume and a sudonym.

This is the first crack at a piece for an Oxford based magazine and the word i'm working to is PERFORMANCE. So, my plan is to take Joseph Beuys' conceptual and static pieces and add movement or a certain performance to them through illustrating them. Also along with my inability to use non pastelly colours I guess the performance itslef might also just be me changing it, changing these infamous pieces into something theyre not ie. into unimpressive unmoving illustrations......hmm...gonna keep thinking and playing...my next move was to maybe take one of his famous sledges and punch a circular hole in it with a fridge in the removed cylinder.......ooh not sure...anyway deadline is the 6th of march so I've got a week.

"Lets Do Real Stuff"

So basically, I, like many, am easily installed like any computer programme on my laptop. Sit, type, link, new tab, watch, laugh, click etc. Guilt and consciousness are only ever realised as soon as get my eyes are removed from the hot screen. And now with a bunch of the gee stuff (thats guilt) I've decided formally to uncomplicate and just do more, i vow to do more away from anything that has a web address.

Last night I went to an outdoor cinema in Centennial Park, Sydney, and I became aware that life has gotta be about doing. right? I made a pact to never say no to an opportunity upon watching 'Yes Man' in May 2009 but along with that I've made a new pact to get up and do stuff every evening. Even if its to make a paper airoplane to have a throwing competition.

Whether its a casual game of scrabble, buildin a den or going on an outing I think we've gotta do more and if we all do more then maybe we'll conterract the new gravity we've developed-a monitor based gravity-and reach out to things with tactile qualitys.

I am painfully aware of my youth and even more aware of the thought of wasting it.

IDEAS FOR DOING:

1. Bake a cake -decoration is the most sublime form of happiness

2. Go somewhere new- take a camera and a friend and just go find a new place (I found Narnia yesterday- coming soon...)

3. Write a poem - Pick two random objects and write a poem about them

4. Buy a throw away camera- The spontaniety and beauty in the process. Throwaways will proceed that of a digital forever. plan not. snap a feeling (and when you get them deeveloped get them 4x6 with white borders plus a disc)

5. Speak to someone you wouldnt normally- In a taxi, on a street, in a bookshop. I find if you invite conversation or innitiate one you'll take something away from it.....I reckon every person you meet has the ability to teach you something.

6. Have a Garage Sale Car Boot sale - Noones ever got enough money anymore and we all have way to much "stuff" so stop saying you'll put it on ebay or take it to a charity shop geta few friends make some tea and cakes and invite people to pay for your hand me downs. For anyone fearing it, don't. I say embrace it i mean it may feel like this day is all a set up to haunt you and your fundamentally sad love life but i figure if you embrace the notion of love and not just its absence in your life upon that day then i guess it makes the day all that much more wonderful. This was my notion this morning as I arose to the whizzing of my fairly ineffective fan. So off i went to purchase eggs, flour, sugar and all the nessecary items along with red food colouring and sweets of the the "rouge couleure".

A disaster! my fairy cakes turned into cavernous biscuits....they formed a shape like that of an egg box, a mountainous sheet of sugarry snappery.

My to-be-victoria sponge was a flop- in every which way and on rising decided it was far too impatient so just belted out and covered the contents of our oven, I reitterate, covered!

Now normally I'd see this as a metaphor but instead me and Cat, my hilarious and wonderful new friend and flatmate, have planned round two already and with this we, together, will conquer Valentines Day as an investment in love. The fact that Cat informally asked me to marry her so we can share each others passports in neither here nor there. The love cake will be appearing soon........

Snail Mail

Rarely upon rarely do we go to the unbelievable effort of use the now foreign pen and paper to communicate. Post-its are as tactile as it comes for us tyoing robots. We hammer out words and phrases willy nilly all day......all day with little thought...well maybe not little thought but with ease anyway. I mean, an email or a posting is easy at the best of times. Keeping skype dates is the next level of commitment and the holy grail of perfect communication is the letter and its darling cousin the parcel. Upon a Thursday this week i received my second parcel since moving out here and the joy that lead me to physically skip up Pitt St is like no other.

The weight, the layered stickers, stamps and slightly smudged handwriting. " Ooh" she thinks, "Which end to open, which end". Upon opening such a gift the pieces roll out and paper unfolds. My darling sister Ally has sent me heaven in a vessel.

1. A poem called "PIGS" about flying cows and faeces

3. Butterfly earing studs-beautiful

4. A beautiful headscarf ( from a real vintage shop, as she highlighted profusely)

5. Marmite- to compete witht the Vegemite fans here...the only reaction I've got thus far has been "mmmmm yeasty"

6. Mini eggs- which me and my roomate inhaled upon an instant.

So in return I've sent her the most bursting bundle of joy and will send it tomorrow out onto the sea by seamail.

So this is me supporting snail mail and saying " I know its a hassle, all the bits are so tricky to sort out (envelopes, stamps etc ) but if you make the effort its a symbiotic brilliance and almost now an art form. I'd discovered him somewhere back in early 2009. I was on the train and "Happy Time" came on from the film Kids and I remember just being enchanted by the sense of naivity on top of his agonisingly heartfelt and accomplished lyrics. He sounded crazy, he was crazy he is crazy. But crazy is beautiful.

After going on and on about my latest discovery one night, my dear friend Cecilia told me about a DVD, about his artwork, about his insanity and about his tapes. I watched it on Sunday and my allegiance was confirmed. His recurring themes, his manic mind, his pure heart. I had to see him...properly

So off I popped down to the Metro in Sydney, a common haunch for music lovers and general trendy folk all round. The levels of asymmetry in hairstyles blew me away as ever. I'm just a sheep after all. Next? A black out. Everyone out. "Onto the streets with you you raggamuffins". So in the rain we waited, ps I had faith a burning. always.

We piled in, chose our positions. Me behind the tall scary dude with long flicky locksome hair and Mitch next to the slow clapper (bastard man). He came on and silence hit the floor. The rumble tumble man that was dressed in a cowboy hat and an australia t shirt stood infront of some trippy projection and the night was born. Coloured lanterns hung above his head and I was totally there, hanging on every word. His mismatched chords and hokey pokey rythms tumbled in sarcasm and self loathing.

When you believe every lyric and you know every feeling they sing so darkly of, you cant help but fall ever so partmentally in love, right? I mean I am permantently leaning down to my new bike and saying, as I tap it softly on its crisp metal hubcaps "Speeding motorcycle, won't you change me? In a world of funny changes"

Once again, Callum Crawford and Josh Whitaker triumph at creating something simple and brilliant. I am no art critic, they wouls both tell you that, as my knowledge and art history is comparably abismal in the shadow of theirs. There's just something about the work that they do that makes you take them seriously and makes you wanna say "hey so lets go to the pub and you can tell me all about it until the sun rises"....cos i guess for me it seems like a pure sense of something born out of thought and there's never any bullshit....and there is pleee henty of that around....

This is there three sided Subbuteo game. I'm not going to going into metarphores cos I'd be assuming. All I can say is its a beautiful piece of work, immaculate, complex I'm sure, yet simple to behold.

Juliannas Sketches_No Computers Needed

Recently my work has been largely down to drawing for a scanner. Vectorising things or atleast trying to and generally adapting my love of drawign for the technology that allows us to present it on a screen.....now i know thats not how it should be....the computer should merely aid you in you options etc but i have found it somewhat of a struggle.

One of my oldest friends Julianna is applying to Camberwell to do Illustration and has just put up some stunningly beautiful pencil drawing which have inspied me to step away from vectore and photoshop altogether.....

As I'm so frickin far away from home and all that I know to be familiar I find myself asking myself what home actually means in relation to the place where you dwell. I've lived in thenumerous houses/dwellings... Now an official member of the CG team I feel it time to post a little of my mentality on the philosophy involved in his exciting venture lead by Monsieur Stevie Thomas.

I approached Stevie on a purely cringe basis when I saw him on Shipwrecked and thought "hey you know this guy may be a tad poshy mc posh but he's got it all going on upstairs etc" so lame old Ocki emailed the poor fellow to inform him of my admiration..... a few years down the line I'm now working with him as le artiste hoping to change the world of the party and we hope that worl domination is on the cards.....

Bluto vs King Charles

Bluto is big into garage. now personally I don't even really know what that means but I know that its likely that folk lover me is unlikely to find a happy medium with the grungy sounds of the british garage scene.

Whilst leaving my house we'd discussed how listening to music you dislike is worse then eating food you hate. ie I think I'd rather eat coriander all day than listen to bad drum and bass all day........etc

It was on a road trip to Bristol that I was faced with the prospect of popping on a CD that I had made for my sister and off we went. At my school up till the age of 18 I was in a boarding house named after the decorative and perfectly elaborate William Morris. I discovered him in the History of Art dungeon and from then on have been ever enamoured by his printwork and papers. Even now with all this technology that surrounds and absorbs us his work remains real and emotive...without vectors and layers.

When drawing of recent I've sat in front of my computer at my desk with my pens all in a pile to the left my a2 sketch pad landscape teetering on the edge of my desk in front of a certain movie that plays over and over. Helvetica_The Documentary...

Its not even that Im so in love with helvetica that I feel I need to be told about its history over and over I think its just the subtle hold that it has upon everyone and hearing people who I admire talking about it...ie Paula Scher and Steven Sagmeister.

Callum Crawford and His partner in crime Josh Whitaker (Students at UAL, St Martins and Wimbledon respectively) have been making work together for a while now and have finally opened up their world to us.....although so far I am the only follower.

This is the poster that I insist on getting a print of that they produced.

Kerensa enlightened me with the stunning work of Peter Callesen. Like him I believe in the motif that is 'a4 paper'-its a symbol of our society and yet so highly overlooked as a medium on which to create "serious art"

"I find the A4 sheet of paper interesting to work with, because it is probably the most common and consumed media and format for carrying information today, and in that sense it is something very loaded. This means that we rarely notice the actual materiality of the A4 paper."

I think im gonna give something like this a try over the weekend maybe with letter forms.....

I've been in Australia seven months now and even though I love it here and I maybe might want to spend a few years exploring the industry my family and heart is in England. Ive become a positive happy person (its taken its time i tell you) so I've put an idea out there. On the waves of the world wide web I've merely suggested a plan. All I know is that life is simply too short to spend indoors, trying not to spend money, sitting on a computer all day emailing people job applications and pathetically desperate emails about "how passionate" we are...why not take a walk on the wild side, get back to basics and live a real life it the countryside in a mini community of our own.

Cooks, artists, photographers alike could all live and inspire together..we could have exhibitions and events to create an income for our living ...we could commute to city jobs.....we could have pets...grow vegetables.....get away from relying on things that mean nothing.

So finally after much cramming and stealing of time to squeeze in the designing of supposedly four teeshirts for LovePolice. I've finished three and sent them to Brian for him to deliberate. Im now working part-time at News Limited Australia so have been using my lunchbreaks and loo breaks practically to draw me owls and vessels.

Im worried as i think they are too fine to be screen printed and will have to be printed digitally which is gonna up the cost.....Im not feeling too positive at the moment but i put my heart and soul into them so im a crossing me fingers for a little miracle....imagine. festival goers decked out in my lines. (dreamy)

NB. Animal Collective are playing at Meredith Festival and one of their members Panda Bear is amazing (check out his song comfy in nautica, see below) and so on each of the owls i drew a tribute panda bear......for noah...he's called noah.....Noah Lennox:hes a harmony himself.

I'll keep updating this with my progress etc....but potentially v exciting.

6 Degrees of What?

So irony and conicidence have come up to take a huge bite out of my rational mind in assuring that I carry on dreaming of the light at the end of the tunnel of unemployment. Im currently working on my t shirt designs for LOVEPOLICE but Brian yesterday informed me that he had to pop off to L.A. as one does to go to a gig. Now when I was studying graphics we had to design an album cover for any band, any single band.....so of course I chose the love of my life " Band of Horses". Their sweet melodies with romantic cushioning of guitar sounds just yummy down in my ears and make me feel quite golden.

So who is Brian off to see and "chill with"?....oh yes six followers, the band of hooves and manes.....the band of lovely horses themselves.

Now I'm not being presumptious here but lets say Brian mentions me to them ....we are talking six hot degress of insanely wierd seperation. I love the way the world decreases in size and magnitude as we age and become more decrepid.

This is the design I did for them way back when.

That is peace and harmony for me.......Im thinking a signed polaroid would be preety marvelous?

I'll keep yee posted on how the teeshirt designs come along just gotta find the lead for my camera!
